The Trent Lott National Center of Excellence for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship is partnering forRegional Innovation in Southern Mississippi in the following ways:
      1. Establishing Pine Belt Innovators
      2. Facilitating the Southern Mississippi Youth Entrepreneurship Program (SMYEP)
      3. Old Hattiesburg High School into an USM Art School building
      4. Innovation and Commercialization Park
      5. Operating a world-class Business Assistance Center (Incubator)

Pine Belt Innovators have been established to create an innovation-friendly business environment in the Hattisburg region.

Southern Mississippi Youth Entrepreneurship Program (SMYEP)

Southern Mississippi Youth Entrepreneurship Program makes it's debut into the community! Starting this fall, SMYEP will be offered to local high school students via a curriculum developed in partnership with USM, JCJC, and other organizations.

Marine Composite Consortium

The Marine Composite Consortium is an initiative to stimulate collaborative effort amongst the Mississippi businesses and educational institutions interested in the application of polymer science and composite technologies to the marine industry. It presently includes three companies, Northrop Grumman, Seemann Composites, US Marine and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Communirty College, Pearl River Community College as well as the Unibersity of Southern Mississippi.
The two major goals of the Consortium are to develop innovative technologies and to develop the workforce for implementing these technologies.
